Fully-automated trading firms have been described as competing in an arms race to deploy the fastest possible systems. XOC has built a very efficient system, which gives us speed advantages in both simple and complex algorithms. From a strategic perspective we feel that longer-term advantages can be obtained by designing and implementing highly scalable technologies that support many products and trading strategies. We expect to be better by being a bit different.
Our technology choices are driven by these goals, and include the use of Java, Linux, R and Perl.
From an engineering perspective, our software and hardware choices are similar to those of many competitors. The design and implementation challenge is to make the right trade-offs to gain the optimal balance of speed, capacity and reliability.
